So just what is a BMX ?

A BMX bike like the Vibe Ignite Boys BMX Bike or just BMX, is the generic name of a popular bicycle intended for casual use and off road sports such as BMX Racing.
BMX bike frames are made of either steel or aluminum, although BMX bikes made with aluminium frames are often intended for racing. Cheaper BMX bikes are often made of steel. Average BMX bikes are generally chromoly or hi-tensile steel, and high-performance BMX bikes have frames made of 4130 chromoly, sometimes known as 3rd generation chromoly.
On Freestyle and dirt jumping bmx bikes, the wheels usually have 36 spokes, although some bmx bikes have 48 spoke wheels especially street bikes.

A little history.......
The BMX has it's roots in the early 1970s, when, while trying to copy motocross superstars children began racing their bicycles on dirt tracks in southern California. By the middle of the 1970's children were racing ordinary road bikes around purpose-built tracks, and manufacturers began creating BMX bicycles designed especially for the sport.
BMX bikes grew in popularity over the years and over thirty years after it all started in California, the International Olympic Committee made BMX an Olympic Sport and medals were first awarded at the Beijing Games.
